Road accidents in Myanmar reach 888 in early 2026


YANGON: A total of 888 road accidents were reported across Myanmar in the first three months of 2026, state-owned daily The Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Monday (May 4), citing the Ministry of Transport.

These accidents resulted in 486 deaths and 1,208 injuries, the report said.

The Yangon region recorded the highest number of accidents during this period, with 199 incidents, leading to 273 injuries and 96 deaths, it said.

The Ayeyarwady region had the second-highest number of accidents, with 135 accidents, in which 191 people were injured and 64 lost their lives, it added.

During the same period in 2025, there were 856 traffic accidents nationwide, with 453 deaths and 1,265 injuries, it said. - Xinhua
