BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Firefighters responded late Friday afternoon (May 1) to a huge forest fire at the Berakas Forest Reserve Recreational Park, which affected an estimated seven hectares of government land.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), an emergency call was received at 4.51pm.
Four fire engines from Lambak Kanan Fire Station, Rimba Fire Station, Berakas Fire Station and the Women Operations Unit, along with 32 personnel, were dispatched to the scene.
The firefighting operation was led by Fire and Rescue Superintendent Ajahrin Mail, Deputy Commander of Operations Branch ‘C’.
Upon arrival, the fire was found to be spreading in patches across hilly terrain. Firefighters immediately proceeded into the forest to extinguish the blaze using fire beaters and snap tanks. No injuries or untoward incidents were reported throughout the operation.
Station Commander of Berakas Fire Station ASFR Ali Abdul Rahman Halus, Station Commander of Lambak Kanan Fire Station SO Fauziah Abdul Rahman, Station Commander of Women Operations Unit SO Rosita Aman and Station Commander of Rimba Fire Station SO Muhammad Noor Ahad were also present.
The FRD reminded the public to remain vigilant and avoid any open burning activities, especially during the current hot and dry weather conditions, to prevent the occurrence of forest fires. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
