Myanmar President attends opening of traditional Thingyan festival


YANGON: On the eve of the traditional Myanmar Thingyan, the Naypyidaw Myanmar Ata Thingyan was held in accordance with Myanmar traditional culture at the Naypyidaw Mayor's Thingyan Pavilion on Monday (April 13), and was attended by President U Min Aung Hlaing and his wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla.

The Naypyidaw Mayor’s Maha Thingyan was also attended by Vice President U Nyo Saw and his wife Daw San San Aye, Vice President Daw Nan Ni Ni Aye, Union-level dignitaries and their wives, the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services and his wife, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services, the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services (Army) and his wife, Union Ministers and their wives, the Chairman of the Naypyidaw Council, senior military officers and their wives from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services, the Commander of the Naypyidaw Regional Command, Deputy Ministers and officials, dance groups and the public.

The Myanmar traditional Thingyan festival is celebrated in accordance with Myanmar, Myanmar style, and Myanmar traditional cultural traditions, and artists from the Department of Fine Arts, Ministry of Hotels, Tourism and Culture, and artists from Myanmar Broadcasting and Television, Ministry of Information.

The performance included traditional Burmese songs and dances.

Afterwards, the President and his wife sprinkled water on the Union-level dignitaries, attendees, and dance groups attending the ceremony, in accordance with Myanmar tradition.

Afterwards, the President, his wife, and those attending the ceremony walked from the Mayor's Pavilion to Naypyidaw Square, where the Thingyan Opening Ceremony will be held, and were greeted by traditional dance groups along the way.

U Maung Maung Ohn, Union Minister for Information U Htein Lin, and Union Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Maung Myint cut the ribbon to open the Thingyan Gate along Naypyidaw Avenue.

The President, his wife, and those attending the ceremony watched performances by the Yam Aka dance troupes, followed by traditional Burmese thanakha and tea, and visited the Myanmar Traditional Cultural Zone and Ministry of Culture in Naypyidaw Square.

They toured the water play pavilions and celebrated the traditional Myanmar Thingyan festival together with the people.

This year, the Myanmar traditional grand Thingyan festival, the Thingyan along the Naypyidaw promenade, was jointly celebrated by the national government, parliamentarians, departmental staff, and the public.

The event aims to highlight the essence of Myanmar's traditional culture and celebrate it happily.

Renowned artists, as well as groups from Korea and Belarus, will perform at the Naypyidaw Thingyan Central Pavilion.

Myanmar's traditional Thanaka, tea, and thamanai pavilions will also be included in the Naypyidaw Thingyan Walking Festival, so that the world can know Myanmar's traditional culture and traditional food.

Similarly, the water sports pavilions, ethnic traditional water sports pavilions, and the central pavilions of the Thingyan Walking Festival are hosting guests with traditional food, so that people come to celebrate the Myanmar traditional Thingyan in large numbers. - Eleven Media/ANN
