BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Darussalam welcomed the international cruise ship Piano Land, carrying 1,336 passengers and 497 crew members with the majority of the passengers being Chinese tourists.

The passengers were welcomed with traditional hadrah (Sufi ritual) performances, reflecting Brunei’s rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality.

During their time ashore, passengers visited key attractions in the capital, including a photo stop in front of Istana Nurul Iman and a visit to Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah to learn about the personal collections of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and other attractions.

The passengers also explored and purchased local souvenirs available at the Cruise Ship Centre following the tour.

Their short visit highlighted Brunei’s growing appeal as a unique and culturally rich cruise destination.

Visitors appreciated the country’s peaceful atmosphere, well-preserved landmarks and warm hospitality.

Many also praised the friendliness of the local community and guides, who provided opportunities to learn more about Brunei’s culture and heritage.

Some passengers expressed interest in returning to further explore the Sultanate’s nature-based and cultural attractions.

Arriving from Kota Kinabalu, the vessel’s passengers enjoyed Brunei’s tourism offerings before continuing their voyage to Hong Kong.

With the arrival of Piano Land, Brunei has welcomed 13 international cruise ships so far this year, out of approximately 30 expected in 2026.

The growing frequency of cruise calls reflects increasing confidence among international operators in Brunei’s readiness, infrastructure and distinctive tourism offerings, further establishing the Sultanate as a notable cruise destination.
