Brunei legislative council speaker calls for enhanced efforts for national development


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Brunei's Legislative Council Speaker, Abdul Rahman Taib, has called on members of the Legislative Council to jointly shoulder responsibilities in building the nation through a whole-of-nation and whole-of-government approach.

Speaking at a meeting of the Legislative Council on Friday, he stressed the need for more aggressive and sustainable action plans to help achieve the long-term Brunei Vision 2035.

According to the speaker, legislative council members should work together in identifying practical solutions to national issues for the benefit of the people and the country.

Brunei, an oil-rich nation, is part of ot the Asean bloc. The Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean) is a 10-member regional bloc (with Timor-Leste joining as the 11th) aimed at fostering economic, political, security, and socio-cultural cooperation. Established in 1967, it represents over 680 million people, promoting peace and stability in Southeast Asia through economic growth and unity.-- Xinhua
