PETALING JAYA: National shot putter Jonah Chang Rigan has smashed his national record at the Asian Throwing Championships in Mokpo, South Korea on Saturday (May 2).

The Sarawakian threw a distance of 18.81m to finish fifth in the final, to rewrite his record of 18.78m he set at the Thailand SEA Games last year.

The effort in Thailand not only secured him his first SEA Games gold medal but also shattered the previous Games record of 18.14m.

China’s Chen Hongfei took the gold with a throw of 20.18m, while his teammate Chen Chengyu won silver with a throw of 19.64m.

Bronze went to Kazakhstan’s Ivan Ivanov, who did 19.41m.
