Myanmar vehicles with fake and decorative licence plates must register by deadline or face action

YANGON: The Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced that vehicles using fake and decorative licence plates without registration will be required to register within the specified dates and that action will be taken if they fail to comply.

The notice states that vehicles that have been imported into Myanmar with the Department of Trade’s import permit and the Customs Department’s import permit and paid taxes must be initially registered with the Road Transport Administration Department, but it has been found that vehicles with fake licence plates are being used without registration.

Since these vehicles are required to undergo initial registration in accordance with the existing Road Safety and Motor Vehicle Management Law (2020), vehicles allowed to import by the Department of Trade in 2018 must be registered by April 30, 2026, vehicles allowed to import by the Department of Trade in 2019 must be registered by May 31, 2026, and vehicles allowed to import by the Department of Trade in 2020 must complete their initial registration by June 30, 2026.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced that initial registration will not be processed after the specified period and that action will be taken in accordance with existing laws if registration is not completed on time. - Eleven Media/ANN
