Fuel stations in Brunei to be inspected twice a year starting 2026

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Brunei government has revised the annual inspection frequency for its fuel stations to twice a year starting 2026.

The move is part of the government's pro-business initiative, considering the industry’s clean compliance record over the past six years as well as benchmarking against practices in other Asean countries.

The announcement was made during a briefing session delivered by Weights and Measures Unit (SDT), under the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE), to owners and representatives of Shell stations in Brunei Darussalam on Thursday (Dec 18).

The event held at the Brunei Malay Teachers Association Building provided updates and clarification on the procedures, compliance requirements and recent changes to calibration and verification tests under SDT.

Also at the briefing were director of the Industry and Business Ecosystem Division at MoFE Allen On with Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd (BSM) head of Marketing and Commercial Erdiana Rahim.

During the session, the SDT also shared that since industry portfolio has been absorbed into MoFE in 2019, the ministry has always been proactive in carrying out the tasks required by the Weights and Measure Act, 1983.

The initiative reflects SDT’s continued commitment to maintain transparency, fairness and public confidence in fuel measurement systems across Brunei Darussalam while fostering effective collaboration with industry stakeholders.

SDT will continue to monitor compliance through risk-based and surprise inspection when and as required, to safeguard accuracy and consumer confidence.

The SDT along with BSM extends its appreciation to all participants for their engagement and looks forward to continued collaboration in upholding measurement standards and service quality at fuel stations nationwide. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
