Hawaii's Kilauea volcano spews triple lava fountains and tallest reaches more than 1,200 feet, says USGS

MOSCOW (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti): Hawaii's Kilauea volcano, during the 38th episode of its eruption, released a lava fountain approximately 1,200 feet high and, for the first time during the current eruption, released three fountains of approximately equal size, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said on Sunday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

"All three vents are currently producing fountains. The south-vent fountains are reaching nearly 1,200 feet (370 metres) in height, while the north-vent fountains have declined significantly from their earlier maximum of 500 feet (150 metres).

Prior to the south vent becoming dominant, there were three roughly equal-sized fountains about 500 feet (150 metres) high - two from the north vents and one from the south.

This triple-fountain display is an extremely rare event, and this is the first time it has been observed during the current eruption,” the USGS said.
