Brunei leads discussions on school leadership, teacher training


Brunei shared about its initiatives that have contributed to the strengthening of the teacher professional development ecosystem. - BB/ANN

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati Tajuddin attended the 48th South-East Asian Ministers of Education Organisation High Officials Meeting (SEAMEO HOM) in Bangkok, Thailand from November 18 to 20.

This year’s meeting is particularly significant as SEAMEO celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Secretary to the Minister of Education, Thailand Anongnat Chakaew officiated the meeting on behalf of Minister of Education, Thailand Professor Dr Narumon Pinyosinwat with this year’s theme ‘Leading Through Learning: Empowering Schools and Communities in Southeast Asia’.

This year, Brunei served as Chair of the meeting for the In Camera and Plenary Sessions in its role holding the SEAMEO Council Presidency.

The Brunei delegation also presented the Sultanate’s Initiatives on School Leadership and Teacher Professional Development which included The Brunei Darussalam School Leadership Standards and Competency Framework (BDSLSCF) which aims to support the professional growth and leadership capacity of school leaders.

Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati also participated in a panel discussion on Strengthening Teacher Professional Development Systems in South-East Asia where initiatives that have contributed to the strengthening of the teacher professional development ecosystem in Brunei were shared.

The 48th SEAMEO HOM also featured the awarding ceremony of the first-place winners of the SEAMEO SEN-Canva Creativity in Education Award, the 2024/2025 SEAMEO-Jasper Research Award and the 2025 SEAMEO-Japan ESD Award. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
