All for a good cause - FOMSO's Gala Dinner 2025 in support of education and welfare initiatives is a major success

PETALING JAYA: The Federation of Malaysian Sri Lankan Organisation's (FOMSO) plans for education and welfare initiatives scored a big victory at its Gala Dinner 2025, held over the weekend at Bangunan Peladang, Jalan Templer, off Jalan Klang Lama.

The FOMSO Charity Gala Dinner was a successful affair, bringing together distinguished guests, corporate supporters, and community members for a meaningful night of giving.

The lively event was also graced by the guest of honour, Senator K. Saraswathy, Deputy Minister of National Unity, who attended the event despite returning from Sabah after pre-polling duties for her party. Also present was the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Malaysia, Mohamad Rizvi Ismail, who graced the occasion as one of the distinguished guests.

The highlight of the evening was an impressive cultural performance by the dancers from the SAWS Cultural Troupe (Sasana Abhiwurdhi Wardhana Society), led by renowned dancer Dayani Hemadasa.

In addition, the event featured captivating Malay, Chinese and Bharatanatyam dance performances presented by dancers from Laasya Arts Academy. The dancers were also part of the night, who performed voluntarily. Their contribution of time and talent, performed without any form of payment for the benefit of the charity, was lauded by the organisers.

Datuk A. Yogeswaran, President of FOMSO, during his speech at the event, expressed his appreciation for the strong turnout and continuous support: “We (FOMSO) are very humbled by the generosity shown tonight,” he said. "We hope this will continue for many, many years to come."

The organisation also extended its gratitude to all sponsors, volunteers, performers, and attendees for their valuable contributions towards making the event a success.

Plans are already being discussed further to expand the impact and outreach of their charitable initiatives. Guests also enjoyed participating in the lucky draw, which required the purchase of the FOMSO newsletter, sold at RM10 per copy, with proceeds channelled towards the charity.

One of the participants at the event even said that it was an inspiring programme that celebrated unity, compassion, and community empowerment.

Former Deputy President of the National Council of Women’s Organisations (NCWO), Datuk Ramani Gurusamy, a long-standing advocate for women’s rights and development in Malaysia, also attended the event.

She expressed her hope by stating, “Hopefully, the contribution will make a real difference in the lives of the students we aim to support.”
