HANOI: Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has proposed a roadmap for implementing automobile emission standards to help curb air pollution, Vietnam News Agency reported Wednesday (Nov 12).

According to the ministry, the roadmap aims to control and reduce air pollution caused by vehicle emissions, protect public health and improve the quality of the living environment.

Under the proposal, automobiles manufactured from 2022 will be required to meet Euro 4 emission standards starting Jan. 1, 2026, and Euro 5 emission standards from Jan. 1, 2032.

Vehicles manufactured from 2022 and operating in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City must meet Euro 5 emission standards from Jan. 1, 2028, the report said.

Vehicles meeting Euro 4 emission standards must cut permissible emission levels and ensure clean exhaust gases, while Euro 5 emission standards impose stricter limits, especially on diesel vehicles, requiring the use of particulate filters, according to the state-owned media. - Xinhua
