BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: With the introduction of the 10 Water Tender Ladder (WRL) fire engines, the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) is confident that the department’s state of readiness and operational capability will be further improved in line with its vision to become a world-class fire and rescue service through professionalism, preparedness and service excellence.
Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Setia Ahmaddin Abdul Rahman officiated the new vehicle handover at a ceremony at the FRD headquarters in Berakas Saturday (Nov 8).
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by FRD chief religious teacher Haji Shamsuri Tuah followed by welcoming remarks from FRD Acting Director Azmi Hafneh.
As a symbolic gesture, the minister officially inaugurated the Phase 1 WRL fire engines followed by the recitation of Doa Selamat.
The ceremony continued with a tour of the WRL fire engine exhibition, where the guest of honour was briefed on the vehicles’ technical specifications, functions, and operational capabilities in strengthening the department’s firefighting and rescue services nationwide.
The handover of 10 WRL fire engines (Phase 1) marks part of the government’s initiative to enhance the preparedness of the FRD, particularly in strengthening firefighting and rescue operational capabilities.
The effort reflects the Ministry of Home Affairs’ commitment to provide modern resources and equipment that support operational efficiency and the safety of firefighters while on duty. The acquisition of the 10 fire engines through a leasing scheme aims to ensure a high level of readiness and rapid emergency response, while maintaining an excellent serviceability rate – assuring the public of reliable and effective safety measures.
In this first phase, the fire engines will be deployed to stations with a high volume of emergency calls to enhance operational effectiveness.
