Brunei Capital Market seminar highlights sukuk as an alternative financing instrument

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): The Brunei Darussalam Capital Market Development seminar, titled "An Introduction to Sukuk Issuance," was held on Wednesday near the capital.

In his opening remarks, Haji Asrul Adrain Haji Ahmad, Brunei's permanent secretary at the Ministry of Finance, emphasized the importance of strengthening the country's capital market ecosystem through greater collaboration, capacity building and broader participation from the corporate sector.

He also encouraged participants to leverage the seminar as a platform to deepen their understanding of sukuk and gain exposure to international best practices.

The seminar aimed to enhance participants' understanding of alternative financing options, particularly sukuk as an instrument for raising financing through the capital market.

The seminar brought together nearly 100 participants, comprising policymakers, regulators and potential issuers from Brunei Government-Linked Companies and private sector corporations. -- Xinhua
