PANGKALPINANG, Indonesia: Indonesia's attorney general on Monday (Oct 6) handed over assets seized in a tin mining corruption case to state tin miner PT Timah in the presence of President Prabowo Subianto, who vowed to halt illegal mining of tin.
The assets transferred to Timah included six units of smelters, about 680 metric tonnes of refined tin, 108 units of heavy equipment and other assets, data from the attorney general's office showed.
Some of the assets were on display at an event on Indonesia's tin-rich island of Bangka, including stacks of the tin ingots. The visit came after Prabowo said he had ordered the closure of about 1,000 illegal tin mines on the islands and would intensify a crackdown on tin smugglers, sending tin prices last week to a near six-month high.
