Earthquake of magnitude 5.1 strikes Myanmar Sea


YANGON: The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced that an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck the Myanmar Sea on August 30.

The DMH announced that a moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck the Myanmar Sea at 11:35 pm on August 30, with a focal depth of 80 kilometres south of the Kabar Aye Seismological Station south-east of Pyapon, at a latitude of 15.24 degrees north, longitude of 96.24 degrees east, and a depth of 10 kilometres.

Earthquakes have been occurring in the Myanmar Sea since August, and the earthquake that struck in mid-August was felt not only in Myanmar but also in Bangkok, Thailand. - Eleven Media/ANN
