BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The rich cultural diversity of Temburong District was proudly on display at the Get-Together Ceremony with Citizens and Residents, held in conjunction with the 79th birthday of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah on Sunday morning (Aug 24).
The ceremony took place at the Pekan Bangar Civic Centre Complex field.
Accompanying His Majesty were Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Prince ‘Abdul Malik and Prince Jefri Bolkiah.
Upon arrival, His Majesty and the royal family were warmly welcomed by the Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Setia Ahmaddin Abdul Rahman, who also serves as co-chairperson of the National Committee for His Majesty’s 79th birthday celebration. Cabinet ministers and senior officials were also in attendance.
The performances, which combined traditional rhythms with creative ethnic pop, were divided into three segments and involved a total of 186 participants.
The first segment featured a creative ethnic pop opening dance, depicting the joy of the people in celebrating His Majesty’s presence. This segment highlighted the unity of Brunei’s diverse ethnic groups coming together for the occasion. It was followed by a Pop Zapin Melayu performance, with a song specially composed for the monarch.
The second segment showcased dances inspired by the lives of hardworking citizens, symbolising the nation’s spirit and efforts in building a sovereign country under the guidance of a just and wise ruler. This was complemented by performances from various ethnic groups, celebrating Brunei’s cultural richness.
The final segment was a grand finale with all performers on stage, portraying the joy and reverence of the people honouring His Majesty’s presence at the ceremony.
Thousands of residents of Temburong District attended the event to personally greet the Sultan and the royal family. His Majesty and the royal family also toured the numerous unique exhibitions displayed around the Pekan Bangar Civic Centre Complex field.
Among the unique exhibitions was the Wajid Temburong 79 Exhibition showcased the traditional and renowned local delicacy, Wajid Temburong, as part of the “One Village, One Product” initiative. The exhibition was held at the specially prepared Structure 79, designed to highlight and promote products from Temburong District while preserving and celebrating the region’s traditional culinary heritage. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
