Sony Music unveils new singer Nazu, who brews up a fresh flavour with debut single 'Kopi'

The country's top record label, Sony Music Malaysia, proudly unveils a fresh face in the local music scene: Nazu, a 20-year-old singer-songwriter who brings something new and refreshing to the table.

Marking her official debut under the international label, Nazu unveils her self-written single “KOPI”, a dreamy, easygoing pop tune that speaks directly to the hearts of today’s listeners.

“I wrote this song just for fun back in secondary school. I never imagined it would become my first official single one day. It’s honest, chill, and reflects who I am as a singer,” says Nazu, about the song that marks the beginning of her artistic journey.

From TikTok To The Recording Studio

Nazu, whose real name is Nor Azureen Saharin, began singing at the young age of seven, influenced by family members who also shared a love for music.

However, her musical journey took a real turn when her TikTok cover of the song “Masa” went viral — racking up over a million views in just one week. That was the moment everything changed.

“When that video took off, I felt more confident about sharing my music. And when Sony Music offered me a recording deal, I was just overwhelmed with gratitude. This is a dream come true!” she shares.

Now a full-time singer, Nazu is ready to take her next steps as one of Malaysia’s most exciting new voices.

“KOPI” – Fictional, But Relatable

Set against the relaxed backdrop of a cosy café, KOPI tells the whimsical story of a shy, daydreaming girl who catches the attention of a stranger.

Though fictional, the story is filled with Nazu’s signature charm and character.

“It’s about a lonely girl who loves to daydream, hangs out at cafés, and is a huge coffee lover. Then suddenly, a guy takes an interest in her. And that’s how the lyric idea came about — ‘suka matcha atau suka kopi, kalau pilih kopi, baik kopi-lih aku’ (do you prefer matcha or coffee? If it’s coffee, you better choose me),” Nazu laughs.

“I like writing cheeky, playful lines, so I thought — why not write a song with a pick-up line?”

Collaboration With Fahimi & Ezra Kong

Produced by acclaimed music producer Ezra Kong, the track also features rising singer and content creator Fahimi, who lends his vocals and co-wrote parts of the lyrics.

“Fahimi helped build my confidence in the studio, while Ezra guided me through arrangements and lyrical choices. As my first-ever studio recording, the experience was incredibly valuable,” Nazu recalls.

Despite being a newcomer, Nazu completed the entire recording process in just two smooth sessions.

Shaping Her Own Sound

As a young artist, Nazu is not limiting herself to any one genre. Instead, she views every release as a journey of self-discovery.

“I’m still figuring out my musical identity, but one thing I know for sure is that I want my songs to have personality and soul. I want to sound like me — not like anyone else,” she said.

Still, navigating the industry at a young age comes with its own set of challenges.

“There are times I feel unsure about speaking up for what I like or don’t like, but I’m lucky to have the support of my family and the amazing team at Sony Music who always encourage me,” she adds.

Next Steps & Hopes For “KOPI”

Nazu is already working on her next single, with the writing process currently underway.

“I’m writing something new right now and hope to bring a different vibe with my next release. But most importantly, I want to stay true to myself in every song,” she shares.

For now, she hopes KOPI will strike a chord with listeners.

“I hope this song makes people feel calm or even smile to themselves. Whether you’re feeling down, in love, or just need a pick-me-up — this one’s for you. I’m so thankful to everyone who’s supported me from the start,” says Nazu with heartfelt gratitude.

NOTE: “KOPI” is now available on all major digital streaming platforms, including Spotify, Joox, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.
