Brunei lion dance team heads to Kuala Lumpur for international debut

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Nine members from the Brunei Xuan Long Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Club have left the country for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia yesterday to compete in the two-day International Wai Mou Traditional Lion Dance Competition 2025, held Aug 1 and 2.

The international competition is held for the first time this year and will see participation from 36 of the world’s top lion dance troupes, including from Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, United States, France, Indonesia, Australia and Brunei.

Brunei Xuan Long Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Club coach Willis Wong shared that the team is excited for the opportunity to compete for the first time and most importantly, be able to represent Brunei in the competition.

“We hope to perform well and make the nation proud,” added team leader Paul Tan. A national flag handover ceremony for the team was held yesterday prior to the team’s departure. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
