Brunei youth emerges champ in cross-border Chess Blitz championship

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Awangku Abdul Wafie Ikhwan Pengiran Shahridin, 19, was the overall winner in the BCF Chess Blitz July 2025 held in conjunction with International Chess Day 2025, which also saw participants from India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Malaysia.

Eko Handoko from Indonesia and Jude King Tie from Lawas, Sarawak were placed second and third in the competition attracting some 57 participants.

The winners for the age group categories were Aiden Syahmi Muhammad Zabri from St Andrew’s School for the under-14 category, Khaizuran Rezuan from Belait Arabic School for the under-16 category and Muhammad Danish Zaqwan Humaidi Muhammad Hadi from Politeknik Brunei for the under-18 category.

The next championship will be Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's 79th Birthday Chess Festival Championship 2025 in August. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
