PETALING JAYA: Indonesian Open champions Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani already know where their prize money is going – straight to their wives.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin ended Malaysia's 18-year wait for the Indonesian Open title after defeating home pair Nikolaus Joaquin-Raymond Indra 13-21, 21-18, 21-10 in the final at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta on Sunday (June 7).
As champions, they took home the trophy and prize money worth US$107,300 (RM436,497).
When asked how they planned to spend their winnings, both gave the same answer, saying they would hand it over to their wives.
"I give it to my wife," said Sze Fei, while Izzuddin said he would do the same.
The last Malaysian men's doubles pair to win the Indonesian Open were Zakry Latif-Fairuzizuan Tazari, who captured the title in 2008.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin were grateful for the triumph, especially after having to fight back from a game down in front of thousands of home supporters at the Istora Senayan.
"We are grateful that we are able to make it today, once again here in Istora. I think, first of all, thank you to my partner, my team and my sponsors for the unlimited support," said Sze Fei in a post-match interview with the Badminton World Federation.
