United Wa State Army orders removal of all checkpoints in Myanmar's Wa region

YANGON: To facilitate the free and convenient movement of the public, the United Wa State Army (UWSA) Central Committee has instructed the removal of all checkpoints within the "Wa" region, according to sources.

Regarding this matter, UWSA spokesperson U Nyi Rang confirmed the directive to Wa Youth Voice.

The order was issued on July 11 and applies to all checkpoints under the four districts of the Wa region—Mong Pawk, Mong Lin, Mong Maw, and Hopang.

"This covers the removal of all checkpoints across the entire state. The main goal is to ensure that the public can travel freely, smoothly, and quickly," U Nyi Rang told Wa Youth Voice.

An unnamed official clarified that only internal checkpoints within the state are being removed, while border checkpoints will remain operational as usual.

"Our border checkpoints are all functioning normally. Only the checkpoints inside the state are being dismantled. Starting today, for example, the Pang Haing checkpoint above Pang Sang has already begun removal procedures," the official stated.

Due to the removal of these checkpoints, drivers operating vehicles within the Wa region, migrant workers from various areas, and local residents will find travel easier and faster, a driver told Wa Youth Voice.

Locals reported that, in addition to Pang Sang, similar checkpoint removals are underway in Mong Pawk and Mong Maw towns. - Eleven Media/ANN
