SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/ANN): Don’t forget your umbrella when you leave home during the rest of June.
Parts of Singapore are expected to see some days of short, thundery showers in the late morning and afternoon in the last two weeks of the month, said the weatherman on June 16.
In a statement, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) added that there may also be a few fair and occasionally windy days during this period.
Daily temperatures are likely to range between 33 deg C and 34 deg C on most days, though the mercury could reach a high of 35 deg C on a few days.
“Most nights may also be warm and humid and the temperatures may stay above 28 deg C,” said MSS.
Total rainfall for the second fortnight of June is forecast to be below average over most parts of the island, it added.
In a review of the first fortnight in June, the period saw localised, short and thundery showers over parts of the island on several days, MSS said.
A passing Sumatra squall brought widespread thundery showers and gusty winds in the early hours and before dawn on June 8, while a localised convergence of winds brought heavy, thundery showers over the south-western part of the island in the late afternoon and night of June 15.
The daily total rainfall of 131.2mm on June 15 was the highest rainfall recorded for the first two weeks of June, MSS said.
That period also brought warm weather, with daily maximum temperatures hitting above 34 deg C on most days.
A daily maximum temperature of 35.8 deg C, recorded in Ang Mo Kio on June 1, was the highest for the first two weeks of June.
Most of Singapore saw below-average rainfall during that period, MSS added.
“The area around Jurong Pier registered rainfall of 67 per cent below average, and the area around Clementi registered rainfall of 12 per cent above average,” it said. - The Straits Times/ANN
