19-year-old woman stabbed in India's Madhya Pradesh, accused at large

NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, a youth stabbed a 19-year-old woman multiple times in broad daylight at the busy medicine market of Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain city on Friday (June 26).

The victim was left with serious injuries, while local police has launched a search operation.

The incident took place near the main gate of the medicine market in the Freeganj area on Friday afternoon, PTI reported.

The woman has been identified by officials as Pooja Rajak, a resident of Bapu Nagar. She works as a computer operator at Dayal Pharma.

She was on her way to work when the accused attacked her, police officials said.

It is being said that the accused stopped the woman near the entrance of the market and the two of them spoke for a brief while.

Soon after, the man started stabbing her with a knife and fled the spot.

People in the busy market area were stunned by the attack and later rushed to help the injured woman.

Locals soon shifted Pooja to the Charak Hospital, where doctors found multiple stab injuries on her abdomen, neck and arms.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment, PTI reported.

According to police, investigation in the matter is pointing towards a man who had been harassing the woman over the past few days.

Pooja’s mother, Aarti Rajak, informed police that a person, named Sunil, had been allegedly troubling her daughter for the last four to five days.

She even claimed that the family had warned the youth two days ago after learning about this.

In her statement, the victim identified the attacker as Sunil.

Thereafter, police identified the suspect as Sunil Jaroliya, a resident of Dendia village in Ujjain district.

Additional Superintendent of Police Nitesh Bhargava said that a case has been registered and police teams have been formed to arrest him. - The Statesman/ANN
