Cambodia, Thailand celebrate 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties with friendly football match

PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Cambodia and Thailand on Saturday celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with an international friendly football match in the Cambodian capital.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa presided over the event held at the National Olympic Stadium.

Attracting a large crowd, the event featured a match between Kun Khmer martial artists and Muay Thai fighters, and another game between Cambodian and Thai celebrities, including actors, singers, models, YouTubers and TikTok stars.

Speaking at the event, Sokhonn said the game played a crucial role in helping strengthen and expand relations between the two countries and peoples, enhancing mutual understanding and creating a favorable atmosphere for friendship, peace and cooperation.

"Cambodia and Thailand are not only good neighbors, but also have similar culture and tradition, as most of our peoples are Buddhist practitioners and have close relations with each other," he said.

Maris said the tournament was one of the joint activities organized to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two Asean member states.

"This event reflects our two countries' commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation," he said.

In the competitions, the Kun Khmer martial artists defeated the Muay Thai fighters 3-2, while the Thai celebrity team beat the Cambodian celebrity squad 2-1.- Xinhua
