BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The delegation from the NIHONGO Partners Programme under the Japan Foundation continued their journey across the Sultanate as they visited Anthony Abell College, Seria on Saturday (Feb 1).

School principal Steven Shim Sheau Huei welcomed the Japanese representatives comprising high school teacher Ishii Ayako; volunteer Takeya Sachiko; government official Nihashi Nao; Japanese teacher Yakushiji Miho; and office worker Watanabe Airi.

The principal in a welcome speech said learning the diverse cultures of the world enables to achieve the college’s vision of an excellent, quality and productive institute.

He said the school and students are curious to learn cultures across the world, with “Japan being well-known for their historical and beautiful culture”.

He hoped the brief get-together will be fruitful with cultural knowledge and memories exchanged, lasting a lifetime.

The programme continued with a gulingtangan performance with the participation of the delegation.

Meanwhile, the delegation members also shared facts and knowledge about Japan and its culture, specifically on the Japanese train and the art of making Japanese tea along with its accompanying ceremony.

Gan Kae, who led the delegation, said the visit was aimed at introducing the Japanese language and culture to Bruneian students.

“In addition to teaching about our culture and language, we also want to learn more about the Bruneian history and culture; so that we can share with friends and family back home (in Japan).” - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
