BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A blend of tradition and culture was proudly showcased during the Pesta Makan Tahun 2024 held at the Siandang Beach, Kampong Jerudong on Sunday (Dec 8).

The three-day festival is a collaborative effort between the Kampong Jerudong ‘B’ Village Consultative Council (MPK), MPK Jerudong ‘A’ Consultative Council and Jerudong Kedayan Heritage Association (Warisan), with the support of the Brunei-Muara District Office.

Various demonstrations were featured such as the preparation of kelupis, a popular local delicacy as well as a traditional gasing (spinning top) performance, a traditional sport famously played in communities which dates back for centuries.

The significance of the Makan Tahun tradition is an age-old custom celebrated after the rice harvest. It symbolises gratitude for a bountiful harvest and seeks blessings for future harvests.

The festival aims to strengthen the bond between the three participating communities and to preserve the cultural heritage of the Kedayan people.
