BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A joint crime prevention operation led by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) in Kuala Belait on June 4 has resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of suspected drugs, untaxed cigarettes, and other offences.
The operation, carried out by the Kuala Belait Police Station, involved coordinated efforts with the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED), Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the Syariah Enforcement Division.
Two locations were inspected — Barek Singa Menteri in Kampong Mumong and a workers’ accommodation in Jalan Pandan Satu.
NCB detained eight individuals — six men and two women — suspected of drug-related offences under Sections 6(a), 6(b), and 7 of the Misuse of Drugs Act (Chapter 27). One additional person was also arrested under an active warrant.
Authorities seized a straw containing crystalline substance believed to be controlled drugs, along with two items believed to be drug paraphernalia.
RCED uncovered three offences involving untaxed cigarettes under Section 146(1) of the Excise Order 2006, with a significant quantity of assorted cigarette brands confiscated.
Separately, INRD recorded four immigration offences, including a foreign worker who allegedly absconded from his employer and three individuals who failed to produce valid identification documents under the Immigration Act (Chapter 17).
The Syariah Enforcement Division also detected one offence of khalwat under Section 196(1) of the Syariah Penal Code Order (Chapter 215).
The RBPF said such integrated operations will continue periodically as part of ongoing enforcement efforts to maintain public order and safety.
The public is urged to report criminal activity via the RBPF hotline 993. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
