CANBERRA: Australia will push ahead with a ban on social media for people aged under 16 despite calls by Meta Platforms for it to consider shifting responsibility for policing usage to app store operators such as Google and Apple.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Nov 8 that all state and territory leaders had signed on to the plan for age restrictions, with the government ruling out any exceptions for major services such as Facebook, TikTok or X.
