Tree planting marks 54th anniversary of Bandar Brunei renaming to Bandar Seri Begawan

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): A tree planting campaign was held at Brunei capital's Jalan Residency in the heart of the capital to commemorate the 54th anniversary of Bandar Brunei’s renaming to Bandar Seri Begawan.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs (Municipal and District) Abdul Walid Matassan officiated the campaign with officials from the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department. Ten bucida molineti ‘variegated’ saplings were planted.

The tree planting campaign aligns with the Green Protocol, a government guideline for implementing the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy (BNCCP).

The BNCCP aims to reduce carbon footprint through seven key elements: energy use, water use, paper use, plastic use, solid waste disposal, official event management and tree planting.

In addition to supporting the Green Protocol, the campaign also aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of creating a clean and beautiful environment throughout Brunei, particularly in and around the capital. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
