Lancang-Mekong Cooperation launches model village project in Myanmar for poverty reduction

YANGON (Xinhua): The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) has launched a model village project in Myanmar's Ayeyarwady Region to reduce poverty, the state-run daily The Mirror reported on Sunday.

The project was officially launched on Saturday in Ohnpinsu Village of Nyaungdon Township of Ayeyarwady Region, the report said.

Speaking at the launching event, Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe said that the government has committed to narrowing the development gap between urban and rural areas and ensuring balanced development, the report said.

He added that the project would be successfully implemented, drawing on the experiences and outcomes of previous village-level poverty reduction model project, comprehensive village development project, and solar power system and water supply project, all carried out with China's assistance, the report said.

The LMC includes China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The project in Myanmar is being funded by the LMC Special Fund 2024.
