Controversy in Brunei as all titles and honours of popular politician and ex-private, confidential secretary to the King is stripped

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah has consented to the recommendation to strip the membership of the Privy Council and title of Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar, which has been bestowed upon Awang Mohd Nawawi, local news reports said on Friday night.

According to an announcement carried on the Borneo Bulletin, the Sultanate's biggest daily, and Radio Television Brunei, the country's national broadcaster, Awang Mohd Nawawi, who had served as the sultan's private and confidential secretary for decades, was also stripped all state decorations and medals bestowed upon him by the sultan's command.
