HANOI, July 12 (Xinhua/Reuters): Vietnam reported a new record high of daily new Covid-19 infections for the fifth consecutive day with 2,383 on Monday, surpassing the previous record of 1,953 cases registered on Sunday, according to its Ministry of Health.
The new infections include 2,367 locally transmitted and 16 imported, bringing the total tally to 32,199, the ministry said.
Among the community cases, 1,764 were reported in the southern Ho Chi Minh City, 128 in the nearby southern Binh Duong province, and 118 in the southern Tien Giang province.
On Monday, the ministry also confirmed that seven more Covid-19 patients had died, raising the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the country to 123.
Nationwide, as many as 9,331 Covid-19 patients have so far recovered, up 56 from Sunday.
As of Monday, Vietnam has registered a total of 30,259 domestically transmitted Covid-19 cases, including 28,689 detected since the start of the latest outbreak in late April, according to the health ministry
Vietnam will also seek to secure 40 million more doses of Russia's Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, the state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper reported on Monday, citing a government resolution.
Vietnamese T&T group will work directly with the Russian Direct Investment Fund to finalise the deal, the report added. Vietnam has said it has procured 20 million doses of Sputnik V this year.
