Virtual hair colour: Forget hair spray, the Matrix Color Lounge lets you try out over 200 different hair colours and 10 effects.

L'Oréal USA subsiduary Matrix and augmented reality company ModiFace have collaborated to create an application that realistically simulates hair colours and effects using a client's photograph.

On Oct 27, the two companies announced the launch of the Matrix Color Lounge, an application that enables users to upload a photo and use augmented reality technology to try out over 200 different hair colours and 10 effects.

Parham Arabi, CEO of ModiFace, explained that "the Matrix Color Lounge is a very comprehensive application primarily geared towards professional hairstylists in order to stimulate very complete looks, including multicolour effects, like highlights, ombre and color blocking."
