PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong has been tasked with three job scopes in his capacity as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

His scope of responsibilities were conveyed to him by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak before the Cabinet meeting here yesterday.

“The Prime Minister told me that the responsibility to look after the affairs of new villages which traditionally is held by MCA is now under me.

“I am also tasked to handle SMEs that involve the Chinese community. This is quite large in term of numbers and types of business.

“These are quite challenging responsibilities because there are 607 new villages in the country to take care of as well as a large Chinese SME community. I will do my best,” the MCA deputy president told a press conference here.

His third job scope is overseeing the micro credit scheme for the development of SMEs.

On politics, Dr Wee stressed that the party was not dancing to DAP’s tune when it agreed with some of the opposition’s stands.

“It is not necessary every time they say yes, we say no. For instance, when DAP says go against corruption, should we say we must go for corruption?

“It depends on the issues and we have to see the merit of the things that we are discussing. I have no idea why MCA has been accused of following DAP. No, we don’t.”

Dr Wee was asked about former Information Minister Tan Sri Zainuddin Maidin’s article on his blog “Zam Kata” titled “MCA go and die If merely leaning on DAP’s ticket”.

In the article, Zainuddin, also the former chief editor of Utusan Malaysia, accused MCA of dancing to DAP’s tune by displaying anti-Malay and anti-Umno sentiments merely to gain the support of the non-Malays.

Dr Wee said Barisan Nasional had adopted the concept of “agree to disagree” on certain things where no one could be forced to agree to say the same thing.

“Must we get everybody to agree on every issue? No, that cannot be (happening),” he said.
