KUALA LUMPUR: A school excursion turned out horrific after a bus with 34 students crashed and overturned near Kg. Nanding, Hulu Langat, killing a male student and injuring four others on Monday.

The dead student was identified as 17-year-old Chin Yeong Peng, whose body was pinned underneath the wreckage.

The students are from a secondary school Petaling Jaya.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said the group with a teacher were on their way back from Lembah Azwen Resort after a leadership camp.

He said the bus was coming down a steep slope at about 1.20pm and the driver tried to steer the bus away from falling into a ravine when it overturned.

Police said the brakes of the bus could have broken down. Most of the students were trapped inside the bus.

The injured were sent to Hospital Ampang. Chin's body had been sent to Hospital Serdang for post-mortem.

Four buses had transported some 150 students to the camp site.

Twelve firefighters were at the scene to help in brining out the injured students from the bus.
