Sabah man dies in car fire, foul play not suspected


KOTA KINABALU: The charred remains of a man were found inside a totally burnt down car close to a playground near a residential area here on Sunday (Oct 30).

The remains of the 63-year-old were discovered in the car at Taman Iramanis, around 9.21am.

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said they received a call about the burning vehicle at around 9.10am.

"A team was sent to investigate. Firemen had already put out the fire when we arrived, and inside, we found the deceased at the driver’s seat," he said in a statement.

He said no foul play was suspected for the time being.

ACP Zaidi said the cause of the incident was being investigated, while the remains of the victim was taken to the hospital for postmortem.

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said in a statement that they managed to bring the fire under control at around 9.27am.

"The car was almost fully damaged by then," he said.

He said operations were complete and ceased at around 12.09pm.

No one else was injured in this incident.
