CelcomDigi has added a voice firewall feature to detect and flag suspicious calls in real time before it reaches customers.

Suspicious incoming calls are now flagged with a “Suspected Scam” alert on customers’ phones following the nationwide rollout of the voice firewall feature in July.

In a statement today (Aug 24), the company said the technology detected 355 million malicious and suspicious call attempts, including 217 million robocalls during a recent pilot.

The company said its voice firewall can analyse traffic patterns and risk indicators to identify malicious or potentially fraudulent activity, complementing existing SMS firewall technology that detects and filters malicious or prohibited messages at the network level.

Chief technology officer Kesavan Sivabalan said the company will continue enhancing its network to detect suspicious activity and intervene whenever possible.

"By detecting suspicious activity within the network and alerting customers before they engage, we are adding another layer of protection where it matters," he added.
