Owners of an Android smartphone can now set ChatGPT as their default personal assistant – a minor revolution made possible by an update to the mobile application.
This new feature allows ChatGPT to replace Google's native voice assistant. Users can already try it out by downloading and installing the beta version of the next app update from the Google Play Store on their smartphone. Then, simply go to smartphone settings, select "Apps,” "Default Applications” and then "Assistant Application.” It then becomes possible to select ChatGPT as the default assistant.
This procedure then allows ChatGPT to respond to your voice commands instead of the previous assistant.
ChatGPT can then be activated in the same way as the Google virtual assistant, ie, by long pressing the home button, swiping up from a corner of the screen or long pressing the power button, depending on the phone settings. However, it cannot be activated by voice, as saying "Hey, Google” will always automatically launch Google Assistant or Gemini.
Indeed, this new feature comes at a time when Google is relying more than ever on Gemini to replace Google Assistant, and is gradually replacing it on various devices. – AFP Relaxnews
