Apple has introduced a trade-in programme on its Malaysian website, allowing customers to hand in their old Apple devices for store credit when purchasing a new one.

Trade-ins are available for all new Apple devices being sold on the company’s website (excluding accessories), though the devices eligible for the programme vary.

For instance, for iPhones, only devices from the 6 Plus and onwards are accepted, with a trade-in value ranging from RM150 to RM3,900, while Apple Watches go from the Series 5 and newer, valued between RM350 to RM1,950.

The programme also accepts iPads (including the iPad Mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro), with value ranging between RM100 to RM4,200, as well as Macs (including the Macbook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, iMac Pro, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro), ranging from RM350 to RM11,650.

Buyers looking to take advantage of the trade-in programme will need to input details regarding the device's condition before checkout for Apple to provide an estimate of its value. — Screenshot from Apple's websiteBuyers looking to take advantage of the trade-in programme will need to input details regarding the device's condition before checkout for Apple to provide an estimate of its value. — Screenshot from Apple's website

Buyers looking to take advantage of the trade-in programme will need to input details regarding the device's condition before checkout for Apple to provide an estimate of its value.

After checking out, Apple will send a confirmation email containing instructions on how the device should be handled before it is dropped off or sent via courier to an Apple trade-in partner. This needs to be done within 14 days of receiving the new device.

The device's estimated value may be adjusted after evaluation, though users can still reject the trade-in offer.

If the value of the devices being traded in is worth more than the new device, the remaining amount will be returned to customers as store gift card balance.

Apple is also offering a free recycling service for electronic devices irrespective of brand, including hard drives, displays, printers, and headphones, among other things.
