‘Kelantan represent!’: M’sian player part of esports team that won RM530K at Valorant Masters in Copenhagen

A player from Kelantan is part of team Paper Rex, which took home US$120,000 (RM534,660) in prize money after winning second place at the Valorant Masters esports event in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Khalish "d4v41" Rusyaidee, 23, was celebrated by his team in a tweet posted on July 22 with the caption "Kelantan represent!". He first joined the Singapore-based team in 2020.

The team also made history as the first group from the Asia Pacific region to reach the finals of Valorant Masters. Apart from Khalish, Paper Rex also consist of Aaron "mindfreak" Leonhart and Jason "f0rsakeN" Susanto from Indonesia as well as Benedict "Benkai" Tan and Wang Jing "Jinggg" Jie, both from Singapore.

The Valorant Masters concluded its grand final yesterday (July 24), with team FunPlus Phoenix coming in first place after beating Paper Rex in three out of five games. The team, owned by China-based video game developer FunPlus, took home US$200,000 (RM890,900).

The Valorant Masters featured 12 top Valorant teams from Europe, US, Asia and South America competing for their share of a US$650,000 (RM2.89mil) prize pool.

Paper Rex is set to compete in the Valorant Champions 2022 event which will be held in Istanbul, Turkiye in September. Last year's event featured a prize pool of US$1mil (RM4.45mil).
