Malaysia’s largest esports contingent – 47 athletes, seven coaches and two officials – are headed to the SEA Games in Hanoi, which kicks off on May 12.
On top of that, the Football Association of Malaysia will be sending four athletes to compete in Fifa Online 4.
Here are the players who will be representing Malaysia in its bid to score the most gold medals.
PUBG Mobile
The popular free-to-play multiplayer battle royale game can be played solo, as a team of two or a squad of up to four players.
The goal is to survive by eliminating other players while managing a battle zone that continuously shrinks and makes fights more intense over time. The Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF) has high hopes that the two Malaysian teams, Tabah NSEA and Geek Fam, will bring back gold from Hanoi.
The players in the two teams are Muhammad Irfan Jafni Mohamad, Muhammad Farish Husaini Zailani, Muhammad Faiz Aiman Baharuddin, Muhammad Dhiya Ulqad Muhammad Arasz, Muhamad Izzrudin Hashim, Mohd Irzam Mohd Zaini, Mohamad Nabil Nazaruddin, Ahmad Syafiq Imran Mohamad, Mohamad Amizul Hafiz Mohd Fadzli and Nadzrul Abd Sagal.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
Teamwork is the foundation of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) as players are required to form squads of five players from a roster of heroes representing six roles – Tanks, Assassin, Fighter, Marksman, Mage and Support.
Todak, the team that emerged as champions of the Mobile Legends Professional League MY/SG Season 6 2020 with a perfect run, will be answering the battle call.
Its players are Zikry Shamsuddin, Idreen Abdul Jamal, Wan Usman Wan Imran, Muhammad Danial Mohamad Fuad, Muhammad Amirul Raziq Mohd Azman, Mohamad Farhan Akiman and Mohamad Zul Hisham Mohd Noor.
League Of Legends and Wild Rift
League Of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena game (MOBA) in which a five-player team must defend their stronghold while attempting to destroy their opponent’s Nexus – a big orb – in order to win.
Team Sem9, comprising Lim Wei Lun, Lee Kai Wen, Eric Sia Sze Pin, Ang Jing En, Alvin Lim Ming Siang, Lim Yiew Siang, and Adrian Lee Meng Xuan, will be representing the country.
Wild Rift is the mobile spin-off featuring a similar gameplay experience, but with a smaller roster of champions and maps optimised for fast-paced combat.
Team Sem9 will also be headlining this challenge with players Liew Kuan Chuen, Poon Kok Sing, Jonathan Chan Mun Shum, Yong Chin Yee, Chun Chin Wee, Lim Shang Ren, and Chan Roong Han.
Free Fire
Third-person shooter Free Fire is a fun game that rewards players as they level up, granting them abilities such as being able to restore health after making a kill with a specific weapon.
Teams Secret Xpert and Sorry Roar will be carrying the Malaysian flag, hoping to be the last ones standing in the arena.
The players from both teams are Mohammad Akiq Akimi Che Mohd Pakri, Noornasdi Abdul Gapar, Mohammad John Abd Gapur, Mohammad Jahn Abd Gapur, Adib Nazmir Johari, Muhammad Zairil Hafizzie Zainal Abidin, Ibnu Qaldoon Mohamad Sukor, Muhammad Irfan Mohamed Azrai and Wan Muhammad Haqimi Wan Airol.
Arena Of Valor
Arena Of Valor is another MOBA game that features characters such as DC’s Batman and the Joker. While the goal is to take down the enemies’ turrets and eventually the main tower, completing optional objectives will grant experience and gold that could turn the tide of battle.
The hopes of the nation will be carried by Cheng Wei Han, Cheoh Yong Chen, Chye Zi Yang, Shee Ji Hong, Loo Yong Leong, Lai Chia Chien and Cham Hong Xin of ADT Esports.
