Kirby goes 3D in Nintendo’s ‘Kirby And The Forgotten Land’

BERLIN: Sucking up everything that gets in the way has always been the way forward for the pink puffball that’s the hero of the Kirby games.

In the latest version, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, he finds himself on completely new terrain.

After a wormhole appears above Kirby's peaceful home planet he’s pulled into a new, post-apocalyptic world where a hostile Beast Pack has kidnapped the Waddle Dees and hidden them all over the world. Kirby’s task is to find them and restore order.

Unlike the previous games, which were classic 2D jump 'n' runs, Kirby now moves through the world in all three dimensions for the first time.

As before, eating enemies and objects grants Kirby their powers. This time around he can spit fire and ice, and also gets to use weapons such as hammers and cannons.

Kirby can also take the shape of large objects, such as cars or metal pipes. This helps not only in battles, but also in the tricky puzzles that have to be solved.

And although the world isn't quite as cheerful as in other Kirby games, with its abandoned shopping malls, beautiful beaches, and colourful fairs, variety is guaranteed.

All in all, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a successful reinvention of the long-running series. Available for the Nintendo Switch, it costs around €60/US$60/RM275.
