The Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon organisers are making the annual run virtual, with an app for competing participants.
On its website, they said the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon 2020 Virtual Run (KLSCM 2020 VR) will take place on Dec 5 and 6.
There will be four categories including the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km and 5km distances; and participants could run as an individual or in a team of three.
“We hope that the strange times we find ourselves in have not dampened your enthusiasm and passion for running. In fact, we expect that the lack of running events has got you positively itching for a race experience,” they said.
The organisers also developed an running app which has a GPS-based activity tracker with map display, distance, time and pace; plus features like leaderboard rankings, an augmented reality face filter and event feed.
The app is not out yet, but will be made available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play store.
Registration for the event is free, and starts on Nov 18.
For long-time fans of the annual event, the organiser said that taking part in the run will also count towards their KLSCM participation history.
The KLSCM 2020 was originally scheduled for June 13 and 14, but was cancelled back in April due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
