WhatsApp is testing self-deleting messages and the option to use the same account on multiple devices.
According to WA Beta Info, the Expiring Messages would enable users to automatically delete messages for all parties after a specified period.
It can be toggled on/off in a specific chat’s Setting, where users can currently mute notifications or set wallpapers. For group chats, it is tucked into the Group Settings. However, for group chats it is only visible to the administrators.
If it is turned on, an indicator that looks like a clock face will be added to the bottom right of the profile picture in the chats list.
Originally called Disappearing Messages, it had been renamed to Delete Messages then Expiring Messages. As such, WA Beta Info notes that the feature’s final name is still subject to change.
The instant messaging service is also working on support for multiple devices, which means users can have the same account (corresponding to the same contact number) on several devices, like their phone and tablet, at the same time.
When a user adds their account to another device, other users will be notified of the encryption key changes.
A notice in the chat will state “your security code with so-and-so changed, because they are logged into multiple devices”.
WA Beta Info said both features are still under development, with no release date available yet.
