SAN JOSE: WhatsApp will soon allow users to open PDF documents directly in the messenger without having to download them first, Meta has announced. The new feature will also allow users to highlight text and add annotations.
The messaging app's developers have also made changes to its Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integrations.
When a smartphone is connected to a vehicle, users will now be able to have messages read aloud to them, reply hands-free using voice recognition and make calls. The WhatsApp call history will also be displayed, the company announced on July 22.
Further updates include changes to WhatsApp's status feature and the registration of new accounts. Users of Apple Music or Spotify will be able to set their status to always show the music they are currently listening to.
In the iPad version of the messenger, new accounts can now be created directly on the tablet – a connection to an iPhone is no longer necessary.
Meta said it has already begun rolling out the new features. However, it can usually take some time before the features are available on all devices. Users should check their app stores for available updates and install them if necessary. – dpa
