Google recognises Hungarian physician Dr Ignaz Semmelweis in its Google Doodle today, for his discovery on how handwashing curbs the spread of disease.

The Doodle shows a video of how to wash your hands thoroughly, as per the World Health Organisation’s guidelines, while Dr Semmelweis counts down the timer on a stopwatch.
