In April, Telekom Malaysia (TM) reintroduced its set-top box service for those who subscribe to the Unifi Home 100Mbs (megabits per second) package.
The move came after the company, earlier in the year, announced that it would stop providing the set-top box for new Unifi Home subscribers.
It stated consumers' preference to watch "content at their own convenient time via their own smart devices" as the reason behind the decision.
Now, tech portal Lowyat.net claims that TM is preparing to introduce Unifi Plus Box, a brand new set-top box for Unifi TV that reportedly supports 4K UHD and HDR content, although it had not been able to verify this with TM.
The portal based the assumption on several pictures and a slideshow of the said service and device that had allegedly appeared online.
The box will reportedly run on Android TV, with pre-installed apps from Unifi's streaming partners including The Star's dimsum, and BBC Player.
According to the report, Unifi Plus supposedly comes with 2GB RAM and 8GB internal storage.
Although the article claims that Unifi Plus will be offered to Unifi 300Mbps customers starting today, a check with a TM representative by LifestyleTech revealed that the company will "not yet" make any announcements.
