Highly anticipated sci-fi adventure The Outer Worlds is expected to launch on Aug 6 after its Steam page temporarily listed a release date.

Revealed in December 2018 with the promise of colourful alien planets, cohesive exploration, role-playing adventure and first-person combat, The Outer Worlds is now expected to release in August this year.

That's because the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC game's Steam store listing displayed a release date for less than a day.

If accurate, an Aug 6 date would give newcomer The Outer Worlds space away from end-of-year barrages delivered by long-standing franchises such as Call Of Duty, FIFA, Madden NFL, and Pokémon.

The game is being made by Obsidian Entertainment in a first partnership with new Take-Two Interactive label Private Division, which oversees existing rocket design challenge Kerbal Space Program and fellow 2019 hopeful Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey in addition to The Outer Worlds.

Obsidian has two leads from the Fallout franchise heading up The Outer Worlds, which looks to capitalise on disappointment following 2018's Fallout '76.

The studio has become well respected for its hand in reviving the isometric-view role-playing genre via its Pillars Of Eternity series, though the first-person perspective of The Outer Worlds hews closer to modern iterations of the Fallout concept.

Founded in 2003, Obsidian became part of Microsoft in 2018, though publishing duties for The Outer Worlds remain with Private Division. – AFP Relaxnews
