Bluetooth technology is focused on becoming more accurate in location services, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has announced.

The new 5.1 version of the service will have "centimetre-level location accuracy", making it easier for users to find points of interest, items with in-built Bluetooth signals and other support points such as information points in cities or airports.

Bluetooth can currently pinpoint objects or places with around one metre of accuracy.

SIG says the new update will make logistics, retail and manufacturing easier and safer, as workers can be alerted in time if they are entering an area that may be deemed unsafe. – dpa
